At Chatham Gables Inn, we look forward to summer all year long. A Cape Cod summer is something everyone should experience at least once (but preferably more than once!). Along with visiting the local shops, beaches and restaurants, you should take part in some local traditions and attend some of these Cape Cod summer events.
Started in 1972, the Figawi Race Weekend kicks off the Cape Cod summer season. The celebrations start with a Kickoff Party at the Hyannis Yacht Club the day before the race. Then, on race day, the race starts from Hyaniss Port Jetty. Over 200 sailboats compete in 13 divisions over Nantucket Sound in a variety of courses. The weekend wraps up with a regatta and awards ceremony on Sunday.
Check out antique and classic cars at the Parade Field in Sandwich. Registered cars will be judged and given awards in these categories: Heritage Museums & Gardens Auto Committee Choice Award, Participants’ Choice Award, Spectators’ Choice Award, Oldest Car Award and the Hagerty Operation Ignite! Youth Judging Program Award, which introduces young people to the judging process.
Come out to the Cape Cod Fairgrounds and sample the area’s best food and wine. Tickets available starting May 1st.
Celebrate Independence Day Chatham style! See local organizations strut their stuff down Main Street in this traditional Independence Day parade. This year’s theme is “Surf, Sand and the Deep Blue Sea.” Then, head over to the Strawberry Festival at the First United Methodist Church and enjoy some fresh strawberry shortcake. The 4th of July weekend festivities wrap up on the 6th with a Small Boat Parade on Oyster Pond Beach.
Head over to Woods Hole for the oldest film festival in Cape Cod. Attend screenings of independent films, panel discussions, workshops, parties, musical performances, and other special events. The perfect Cape Cod summer event for the film buff.
An essential Cape Cod summer pastime is baseball. The Cape Cod Baseball League has some of the best summer college ball in the country. Cheer on the hometown Chatham Anglers. 22 games will be played at home and 22 games will be played away at other Cape Cod locations.
For a great Cape Cod summer music experience, check out the Provincetown Jazz Festival. The festival showcases jazz artists from the US, Canada, UK, Europe and New Zealand. This year’s festival will feature Rebecca Parris, Shawn Monteiro, Avery Sharp and many others.
