If you are looking for a place to get a feeling for the art of the Cape Cod region while you are visiting, we know where you should begin! When you come to stay at Chatham Gables Inn, you will have easy access to the Cape Cod Museum of Art, which is located less than 30 minutes away from the Inn. Guests can spend an afternoon at the Museum where they can wander through the exquisite exhibits to their hearts’ content! Here are four reasons to visit the Cape Cod Museum of Art!
First, visitors to the museum will gain an understanding of the region’s art and culture through the art present at the museum’s exhibits. The Cape Cod Museum of Art’s mission is to preserve, study, interpret, treasure, and exhibit works by phenomenal artists associated with Cape Cod, the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket and the surrounding areas! Including works drawn from the broader context of human, art and art history, the Museum provides visitors with a context for the region’s artistic heritage. Wander through the different exhibits to gain an understanding of the passion of the artists, which they convey through their works!
Second, the stunning historic building in which the Museum is located is reason enough to visit. In 1986, the Davenport West Family donated the charming building to hold the growing collection of fine art. However, at a later date the house was broken down into pieces and moved to a new location, the Playhouse grounds. The House holds seven climate-controlled galleries, a grand auditorium, a quaint museum shop, administrative offices, a conference room, an expansive library, an art storage area for the collection, and an elevator serving all the floors.
Third, the stunning Yasuana Denny Sculpture Garden is worth a stroll. Located all around the house, the Yasuana Denny Sculpture Garden features pieces by Paul Bowen, Jerome Kirk, Kevin Nolan, Del Filardi, Richard Rosenbloom, Harold Harris, Michael Ernst and other brilliant artists! Start in the front yard of the house and stroll around this gorgeous garden, full of vibrant flowers and impeccable masterpieces. Click here to view the Yasuana Denny Sculpture Garden map!
Last but not least, the Museum offers excellent Art Classes throughout the year, from pottery sculpting to oil painting. For the month of July the Cape Cod Museum of Art will be offering Painting with Mixed Media, Introduction to Oil Painting, Art of the British Isles and Ireland, and Fabric Painting classes. The classes are a wonderful way to dive in and experience the art of the region. Click here to view the classes offered in July and the rest of the year!
