The Best Places to Watch the Sunset in Chatham

Chatham Lighthouse Beach

One of the best places to watch the sunset is Chatham Lighthouse Beach, the largest beach in Chatham! Spend the day there and enjoy strolling up and down the coast. Or spend time watching some of the local fishing boats. You may even spot a seal or two! When evening comes, enjoy the sunset beneath the gaze of Chatham Light, a nearly 200-year-old lighthouse that is still used by the Coast Guard today! Additionally, if you come during the summer, you may be fortunate enough to get a tour of the lighthouse itself.

Monomoy Island

Not too far from the Lighthouse Beach is Monomoy Island, a large and remote expanse of land and home to the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge. Spend the day walking amongst the dunes of the beach. See if you can spot any of the species of animals protected by the reserve. Or take a picture in front of Monomoy Point Light, a historic and decommissioned lighthouse. (Lighthouse tours are not available.) Monomoy Island’s remote location makes it one of the best places to watch the sunset undisturbed.

Harding Beach

While the solitude of Monomoy Island makes it the perfect spot for romantic couples, Harding Beach is the go-to spot for families. The calmer waters are great for children to play in. You’ll find lots of delicious local food nearby. And the wide expanse of sand is perfect for teens wanting to play a game of volleyball or frisbee. Your kids will have plenty to keep them occupied as you and your spouse watch the sunset together.
