3 Tony Award-Winning Performances at The Cape Playhouse in 2015

The Cape PlayhouseWhen we go on vacation to a new town, we choose activities to entertain ourselves while we are there. These can be anything from outdoor activities like hiking or water sports or indoor activities that are also educational like going to a museum or having fun enjoying local shops. One thing that these all have in common is that they happen during the day. But, what can we do to entertain ourselves at night? There are always restaurants, bars, and clubs with live music but even that can get repetitive after a while. We at Chatham Gables Inn always have a long list of activities hidden up our sleeve to make sure that our guests will have an amazing time while in Cape Cod. One of our top evening activities is going to see a play at The Cape Playhouse. Come check out The Cape Playhouse and 3 of their Tony Award-Winning plays for their current season.

The Cape Playhouse has 6 productions available for their 2015 season and here are 3 of them that we are sure to be a favorite.

The first production by The Cape Playhouse that we are looking forward to is The Velocity of Autumn. This will run June 16th-27th and is written by Eric Coble. This hilarious and emotional play is about a woman named Alexandra who is entering in the last stages of her life and is confronted by her children on where she should spend those last years. While at first the negotiations don’t go well, the return of a son brings fresh light to her years and meaningful dialogues start. Critics have loved this play and we feel you will too.

Next is 6 time Tony Award winner, My Fair Lady which will be showcased July 28th-August 8th. This classic musical is about commoner Eliza Doolittle who is taken under the wing by Professor Henry Higgins to be taught how to speak like a proper lady and to eventually pass as one. This musical has been named one of the best of the century and it’s easy to see why when you have the combination of fantastic songs, interesting dialogue, and of course the gorgeous Edwardian costumes and set design. This is one musical you will not want to miss.

Lastly, is the 2013 Tony Award winner for Best Play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike which will be running from August 11th-22nd. This play is written by Christopher Durang and centers on sisters Vanya and Sonia, living in a farmhouse in Pennsylvania. Their sister Masha, a movie star, makes an impromptu visit with her boyfriend Spike and this is where the weekend takes a hilarious turn. You will be laughing for days from the antics that are pulled during this play. Join The Cape Playhouse for a wonderful ride of a family reunion.
