6 of Our Favorite Places to Watch the Sunset on Cape Cod

Chatham Lighthouse Beach

One of the best places to watch the sunset is right next to our B&B on Chatham’s largest beach: Chatham Lighthouse BeachSpend the day there and enjoy strolling up and down the coast. Or, spend time watching some of the local fishing boats. You may even spot a seal or two! When evening comes, enjoy the sunset beneath the gaze of Chatham Light, a nearly 200-year-old lighthouse that is still used by the Coast Guard today! Additionally, if you come during the summer, you may be fortunate enough to get a tour of the lighthouse, itself.

Monomoy Island

Not too far from the Lighthouse Beach is Monomoy Island, a large and remote expanse of land which is home to the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge. Walk amongst the dunes of the beach and see if you can spot any of the species of animals protected by the reserve. Or, take a picture in front of Monomoy Point Light, a historic and decommissioned lighthouse. (Lighthouse tours are not available.) Monomoy Island’s remote location makes it one of the best places to watch the sunset undisturbed.

Harding Beach

While the solitude of Monomoy Island makes it the perfect spot for romantic couples, Harding Beach is the go-to spot for families. The calmer waters are great for children to play in. You’ll find plenty of delicious local food nearby. And, the wide expanse of sand is perfect for teens wanting to play a game of volleyball or frisbee. Your kids will have plenty to keep them occupied as you and your spouse watch the sunset together.

Twenty-Eight Atlantic

Would you like to watch the sunset while enjoying a romantic dinner date? Luckily for you, Cape Cod has an abundance of restaurants with outdoor dining spots. One of our favorites is Twenty-Eight Atlantic! You’ll fall head over heels for their views of the ocean, especially in the summer when they open the terrace! Order a chilled bottle of Champagne and toast as the sun slowly sets over the distant waves.

Sandwich Boardwalk

Another beautiful spot to watch the sunset on Cape Cod is the Sandwich Boardwalk. You’ll feel as if you stepped into a Nicholas Sparks movie! We recommend bringing along a little picnic hamper so you can enjoy some delicious appetizers there and turn your trip into a fun date! Did we mention this is also a prime location for a Cape Cod proposal?

Cape Cod National Seashore

Finally, one of our favorite places to watch the sunset on the Cape is the National Seashore! It’s no wonder why it’s one of Cape Cod’s most popular gems. Enjoy a scenic walk on the beach and gaze at the sun disappearing over the ocean. We recommend bringing a jacket so you don’t get cold and a camera to immortalize this beautiful moment!
