One of our favorite recommendations is the Cape Cod Maritime Museum for their history of our area, especially in such a beautiful area. Come see what the Cape Cod Maritime Museum is all about and how you can easily spend an afternoon there.

Located about 30 minutes away from us at Chatham Gables Inn on coastal Hyannis is the Cape Cod Maritime Museum. Tickets in to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum are a steal at Adults for $5, Students and Seniors at $4, and Children 7 and under are free.

At the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, learn about the maritime history of Cape Cod with their many exhibits. They have permanent and rotating exhibits that will give you a full sense of the history of our area. Be sure to check out their Making Waves exhibit that showcases artifacts, maps, and more which shows over 400 years of Cape Cod maritime history. Also be sure to visit the Cook Boat Shop at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum to see how boat building is being done today. Their boat builders use traditional and modern methods and love showing their boats off. Be sure to check out their page for classes and special events.

In the summers, one of the best ways to experience the Cape Cod Maritime Museum is by sailing on one of their boats. They have an 1886 Crosby catboat replica named Sarah that is a lot of fun to sail on. They offer charters and scheduled sails for guests. 1.5 hour charters are $150 and 3 hour charters are $300. Their scheduled sails are Thursdays through Saturdays 11 am to 1:30 pm and are $25 for adults and $15 per child. Children love the sails and also enjoy going to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum’s Safe Boating and Sailing Mini Camp. This week long class gives older children the ability to feel ease while on the water as well as a boating license at the end of their camp.

Besides the daily tickets, the biggest way the Cape Cod Maritime Museum preserves their artifacts is with their memberships. If you frequent Cape Cod during the summers a lot and love the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, consider getting a membership. They have ones for individuals or families and you will get so much in return. When you buy a membership, you will get unlimited free admission to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, discounts on museum merchandise, invitations to member-only previews of new exhibitions, and subscription to the Cape Cod Maritime Museum E-Newsletter.
