5 of Our Favorite Things to Do During Fall in Cape Cod
1. Oktoberfest in Chatham
Held in Chatham’s Kate Gould Park, the Chatham Oktoberfest Festival is a fantastic autumn experience for the whole family. In addition to traditional Oktoberfest activities like beer tasting and music, there will be a wide variety of other fun things to do including children’s games, an apple pie contest, and the highly-anticipated “Pumpkin People in the Park.” This year’s event will be held on October 20th, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
2. Cape Cod Brew Festival
Another exciting fall event that is quickly approaching is the Cape Cod Brew Festival, a celebration of American craft brewers. With over 75 breweries and 250 different beers, this will be one event you won’t want to skip. Stop by the Cape Cod Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 13th for all the delicious beer and food that your bellies can hold!
3. Visit a Cranberry Bog
Did you know that cranberries are number one agricultural crop of Massachusetts? The fall season is the prime time of year to visit a local cranberry bog and learn all about the harvesting process. Some tours will even allow you to pick your own cranberries to take home and share with your friends and family!
4. Enjoy a Last-Minute Whale Watching Tour
October marks the end of whale watching season, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to squeeze in a last-minute tour! There truly is nothing quite like encountering these massive and majestic beasts up close, and there are plenty of whale watching tours to choose from. It also gives you the opportunity to enjoy a day on the water before the weather becomes too chilly!
5. Hike Along the Cape Cod Rail Trail
Hit the road on the Cape Cod Rail Trail, a 22-mile converted railroad. The trail is perfect for cyclists, walkers, horseback riders and runners! You can also traverse away from the trail and make a stop at the beach. Don’t forget to grab food or a drink at several stops along the way. This historic area gives you a great way to connect to nature in Cape Cod and enjoy the amazing fall weather and scenery.
